Near San Antonio is an area known for hosting one of the largest populations of Mexican free-tailed bats. These bats inhabit the bat cave at Natural Bridge Caverns in Garden Ridge.
We protect the Mexican free-tailed bats, which consume large numbers of mosquitoes and other flying insects to provide an important natural pest control.
Due to the size of the colony, their nightly emergence can even be detected on weather radar.
