During 2023/24, the club worked closely with Natural England to reaffirm its commitment to sustainable course management. As the course sits entirely within the Berrow Dunes SSSI, careful stewardship is essential to protect its unique dune habitat.
One key focus has been the removal of sea buckthorn, an invasive species that threatens to outcompete native flora and alter the natural dune landscape. The project involved removing sea buckthorn and accumulated leaf mould along the left of the 7th and 8th holes, creating areas of bare sand.
These open sandy spaces are a vital feature of dune systems, encouraging natural regeneration and supporting biodiversity. By allowing these areas to recover naturally, the club is helping to maintain the ecological character of the dunes while balancing sustainable golf course management.
