New native areas on the golf course - naturalisation

Having seen the newly grown and undisturbed wildflower meadow blending in well on the golf course, we decided to continue the practice of naturalization at Minthis Golf Club. Following advice from TAS (Turfgrass Agronomy Solutions) and GEO OnCourse recommendations, Course Manager Chris Furneaux selected certain new areas in winter 2019-2020 which are out of play with the sole purpose of letting them grow wild. The reasons for this are to create a new habitat for local wildlife, to encourage local fauna and native grasses and to improve the aesthetical, more natural, appearance of the golf course. One of the other major benefits is that these areas are now much less labour-intensive which should only require one mower cut per year. We should also make small savings on fuel and machinery maintenance and will monitor the positive influence on sustainability throughout the year.
