Since 2019, Hørsholm Golf has partnered with a sheltered workshop to produce birdhouses. Each year, we order 100 new birdhouses to both supplement the existing ones and replace those that have worn out. Since installing the first birdhouses in 2014, we’ve made a major change: we no longer use green paint. Rather than giving them a life-extending coating, we now build them from more weather-resistant types of wood. The old, worn birdhouses are disposed of as untreated wood, allowing for 100% recycling.
Of course, we don’t put up the birdhouses solely for the birds. We especially favor starling boxes, as starlings feed on goose and crane fly larvae. This is a significant benefit for us, as insecticides are neither desired nor permitted for use in Denmark.
