Little owls, categorised as critically endangered on Switzerland's Red List, have been spotted in the Limpachtal valley, where our golf course is situated. To support their conservation, we have installed three nesting tubes across different locations. Our aim is to provide a safe haven for these owls to breed, potentially aiding in the establishment of a stable population.
Little owls, known for their insect-eating habits, thrive in habitats abundant with voles, grasshoppers, moths, crane flies, and other insects. Additionally, they scavenge for beetles in piles of rotting wood and feed on worms and bugs found in compost heaps and muck piles. Consequently, these owls serve as natural pest controllers, reducing the necessity for mechanical or chemical interventions and contributing to the maintenance of a healthy ecosystem.
