Golf clubs are well placed to support biodiversity projects beyond their own land. Royal Mid-Surrey is a Partner of the Richmond Biodiversity Partnership which set targets for action for a variety of habitats and species within the Borough. One of these targets is to increase and manage native hedgerow, a habitat that is in decline. This is particularly important in an urban location like ours to increase wildlife corridors and provide food and shelter for a variety of birds, mammals and invertebrates.
On a cold and sunny February morning a group of member volunteers, alongside greenkeepers and gardeners planted 30 meters of new native mix species hedgerow. A great collaborative effort! This was a great opportunity to educate and raise awareness amongst our golfers as well as support our local Borough wide action plans for wildlife.
