Pollinating insects play a vital role in the life cycle of flowering plants, which in turn, sustains human survival. Consider the significance of fruits, vegetable oils, and honey in our daily lives. Unfortunately, modern urbanisation and intensive farming practices have led to a decline in naturally occurring flowers within nature. This decline has posed challenges for pollinating insects. To counteract this, we've constructed an insect hotel strategically positioned near a wildflower-seeded area adjacent to a wetland.
The insect hotel incorporates various features, including drilled holes in wood and other designated spaces, aimed at providing shelter and nesting sites for these crucial insects. Female insects carefully seal their nests with nectar and pollen plugs after laying eggs. This ingenious technique ensures that insect larvae have a sustainable source of nourishment for growth. Remarkably, within just a month, the insect hotel is already bustling with promising levels of occupancy.
