The development of La Réserve Golf Links in Mauritius was a great example of how golf can be used as a vehicle for land restoration. On an Island like Mauritius land is hard to come by so choosing a site is never easy. Here, 104 hectares of sugarcane were chosen as the site. For years the monocrop had stripped the soils of nutrients, reducing the quality significantly. It had also led to a fair amount of soil erosion which was increasing the risk of a potential landslide.

Through the development of this golf course and the golf landscape the majority of this site was turned into a thriving mosaic of native plants, creating robust and healthy habitats. This not only led to a boost to biodiversity across the site, attracting native fauna back to the area, but it has also helped to strengthen the soils reducing the risk of erosion. The habitats on site include over 3,700m2 of wetlands and 6 hectares of open water as well as countless others. Transforming the land from a baron monocrop to a an attractive place for animals, plants and golfers.
