Water security is an increasing challenge across the golf industry, with drought conditions becoming more frequent across the UK. Recognising the importance of long-term water resilience, Royal Wimbledon Golf Club has invested in a more sustainable and reliable water supply through targeted irrigation technology and a new borehole.
The club's targeted irrigation system uses real-time data and soil moisture sensors to ensure water is applied only where and when it is needed, improving irrigation efficiency and reducing unnecessary water use. In addition, a new borehole has been drilled to a depth of 195 metres and is expected to provide a yield of 19.4 m³ per hour, a significant increase on the previous borehole capacity of 3.9 m³ per hour.
Together, these investments will enable the club to become fully self-sufficient in meeting its irrigation water requirements while strengthening long-term resilience to drought and supporting more sustainable water management.
