In 2020, we established a habitat for bees and other pollinators by clearing vegetation and planting seedlings of key flowers such as Field Scabious and Greater Knapweed. Additionally, we constructed a sand bed for nesting purposes. These efforts have proven highly successful, attracting up to 20 species of bees and other wasps to the area between 2022 and 2023.
Notably, species like the Leafcutter Bee (Megachila lagopoda), the Great Yellow Bumblebee, and the Short-haired Bumblebee have been observed. The latter two species are nationally redlisted in Sweden. The Short-haired Bumblebee had previously gone extinct in Great Britain but has been successfully reintroduced using Swedish breeding stock.
