Two electric car recharging stations have been installed in the clubhouse parking area at Muirfield. Each charging point is equipped with twin 7kW units, providing initial capacity to charge up to four vehicles simultaneously. These recharge stations are available not only for members and visitors to the club but also for the local community, allowing them to charge their vehicles whether they are playing golf or living in the area.
The facility is easy to use. By downloading the app, users can create an account and start charging with as little as £10, using their preferred payment method, such as Apple Pay. The installation operates on a three-phase array controller, which allows the club to add up to eight additional twin 7kW units, making the system scalable based on demand from members and visitors.
Each twin unit has two sockets for charging, and they are uniquely named with a couple of Christian names. Drivers can match these names with those listed on the Pod Point app. The twin unit is bolted to the floor on a concrete plinth. Each 7kW unit will charge two fully electric cars at up to 30 miles of range per hour simultaneously.
By encouraging the use of electric vehicles, the club is helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Charging electric cars reduces reliance on fossil fuels and contributes to cleaner air quality, supporting Muirfield's broader environmental goals.
