A swallow tower was installed on fairway 13. This exclusive nesting aid was previously located elsewhere and was not accepted by swallows or swifts. The new location, between the golf course and a farmstead colonised by swallows, could be better suited. The material needed to build the nest, clay, is available in the neighboring biotope of the golf course.
Nowadays, swallows are finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable nesting sites, and their food supply is also becoming scarce. In cities, nests are disappearing due to renovation work on buildings and are often deliberately removed.
At the same time, agriculture is becoming increasingly intensified, with stricter hygiene requirements for farms and businesses. Modern cattle sheds and barns are often closed, offering swallows fewer opportunities to enter. Field paths, driveways, and village squares are increasingly being concreted over, leaving fewer puddles and less clay for nesting. Additionally, there are fewer flying insects due to monocultures, the decline in pasture farming, and the use of pesticides.
