As part of a visit from the NPWS we identified an invasive species called Cherry Laurel which was located adjacent to the Blackwater River SPA on the Championship Course. It had dense cover blocking light and creating a toxic leaf litter layer preventing tree regeneration and ground flora development, reducing the ecological value of the woodland area.
During Winter 2024/2025, it was removed and the area is now regenerating naturally with a flush of foxgloves, oak, beech and holly. Subsequently, during the winter of 2025/2026, further Cherry Laurel was removed in the area. This has benefited both player and planet.
