Amsterdam Old Course is located at Zwarte Laantje (Black Little Lane), a small country road that probably dates back to the 13th century. It was the first connection between Amsterdam (founded around the 13th century) and Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, a village that is even older than the capital of the Netherlands and dates back to the 12th century.
The part of Zwarte Laantje from the entrance of the golf course to the tee of hole 8, the current northern boundary of the course, is all that remains of this connection that also used to be called Zwarte Wegje (Black Little Road). In recent years, the golf club has restored this historical monument in Amsterdam's history in an attempt to save the ancient road for the future.
The path has been extended from tee 8 to hole 4, but this is not the original route of Zwarte Laanje. There are plans to extend the path full circle along the boundary of the golf course and open it for general public.
