At Hirsala Golf Club, heather planting is an integral part of our ecological management and landscape enhancement strategy. The creation and restoration of heather areas—our “Heather Highways”—play a vital role in connecting habitats across the course, providing shelter for various species and supporting pollinators.
Heather also forms part of our sustainable landscape management, as it requires little to no additional irrigation or chemicals, which in turn also enhances the natural beauty of the golf course, with the seasonal colour and texture, which is part of Hirsala's identity. Therefore, by establishing and maintaining areas of native heather, we promote biodiversity, support pollinators, strengthen food webs, contribute to a healthy and resilient ecosystem and create visually appealing natural habitats that reflect the unique character of the Finnish landscape.
