Ennis Golf Club took a decisive step in its climate action journey with the installation of a 50.75 kWp solar PV array — 114 panels commissioned on 3 July 2025 and designed to maximise on-site renewable electricity for clubhouse operations. Since installation, the system has generated 22,416 kWh of clean electricity, cutting reliance on grid energy, insulating the club against future electricity price increases, with savings of approx. €3,600 to date, and avoiding an estimated 7–8 tonnes of CO₂ based on Irish grid emission factors.
The solar array sits within a broader sustainability strategy that includes LED lighting upgrades and ongoing energy efficiency measures, collectively driving the club's transition to low-carbon operations and strengthening long-term energy resilience. As a prominent community hub in Co. Clare, Ennis Golf Club is using the installation to demonstrate that practical climate action is achievable at club level — inspiring members, visitors, and the wider golfing community to consider the role sport facilities can play in meeting Ireland's sustainability goals.
