Back in 2018, Minthis created their own Bentgrass turf nursery. Each Winter, sod is cut from the nursery to be used on the golf collars to prevent warm season grass encroaching into the greens. Later in the year, every time the greenkeeping staff perform a greens renovation which involves hollow-tining, the cores are collected and dispersed back to the nursery green where the sod had been cut previously.
The cores are then maintained like a regular grass grow in until the nursery has been completely repaired. This operation saves hundreds of euros each year as a direct replacement for importing expensive sand and seed. By following the procedure of growing in the cores, we are also saving water and fertiliser in comparison to growing in new seed.
