Fine grasses provide the basis for sustainable turf

At Kingsbarns Golf Links the foundation of sustainable turf management is the cultivation of fine grasses. We have relatively large greens and tees meaning we can spread wear fairly well, although this is countered by high volumes of play and caddie rounds.

Despite this, we consist of 70% fine species in greens and 80% in tees, which goes hand in hand with a low-input system, particularly of nitrogen fertiliser. We use fungicide only when we need to on greens, and haven't used any on tees or fairways for over 5 years.
