Educational boards support habitat and biodiversity awareness

Enniscrone Golf Club is located within a unique coastal dune system, which forms part of a designated Special Protection Area (SPA) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC). These protected habitats support a wide range of wildlife, including important bird species and a variety of native coastal plant species.

Bird species commonly found in the area include Oystercatcher, Curlew, Brent Geese, Lapwing, Golden Plover, Turnstone, and Shelduck. The dune system also supports coastal vegetation such as Marram grass, Sea holly, Lady’s bedstraw, Pyramidal orchid, and Sea bindweed, which play an important role in stabilising the dunes and maintaining the natural habitat.

To promote awareness and responsible use of the landscape, the club has installed educational information boards on the course explaining the ecological importance of the dunes, breeding areas, and protected habitats. These boards help inform members and visiting golfers about the biodiversity of the site and the importance of protecting these sensitive environments.
