In our efforts to enhance biodiversity, we have established multiple deadwood piles around the golf course.
The advantages of such habitats are extensive: they offer support for various insects, act as a refuge and hunting ground for small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and provide shelter for wildlife during the winter months.
These woodpiles become homes and sources of food for fungi, wood-boring insects, and wood wasps. Simultaneously, they become prey for other animals like spiders, frogs, toads, hedgehogs, and birds. A seemingly basic woodpile can rapidly evolve into a vibrant community of wildlife.
