Creating a landmark sand scrape

An area of poor-quality gorse along the boundary between the Old Course and New Course was removed as part of a habitat enhancement project. The clean sand recovered during the works was reused to create a large new sand scrape, making productive use of on-site materials while enhancing the natural landscape.

The sand scrape provides valuable habitat for a range of plants and invertebrates and complements the surrounding heather fringe habitat, increasing ecological diversity across the site.

In addition to creating an attractive natural landscape feature, the project demonstrates how thoughtful habitat management can deliver multiple environmental benefits through restoration, resource reuse, and biodiversity enhancement.
