Cooperation for birds

Sallandsche Golf Club 'De Hoek'

Netherlands

Written by: Richard Holland

For nearly 50 years, nest boxes have been installed, inspected, and repaired at the Sallandsche Golf Club. This work is carried out in collaboration with the "De IJsselstreek" bird-watching group, whose members also handle bird ringing. Over the years, the number of nest boxes has grown to nearly 140. They are primarily used by species such as the great tit, blue tit, pied flycatcher, nuthatch, and starling. Of course, birds like the buzzard, tawny owl, and various woodpeckers also breed at "De Hoek." The number of fledglings per nest box per year shows an upward trend over time when viewed as a five-year rolling average (the orange line); in blue are the numbers of fledglings per year.
