The Natura 2000 network is a Europe-wide ecological conservation network established by the European Union to safeguard biodiversity by protecting its most valuable and threatened habitats and species. The network covers nearly 20% of the European Union’s land area and includes sites designated under the Birds Directive (SPA) and the Habitats Directive (SAC/SCI).
Yyteri Golf is partly located within a designated Natura 2000 area, which places clear legal and environmental requirements on land use and course management. In line with the Sustainable Golf Framework, OnCourse, and Certification Criteria, all golf operations within the Natura area are planned and managed to avoid significant adverse impacts on protected habitats and species.
Course maintenance, land use and development activities are adapted to conservation objectives, ensuring compliance with Natura 2000 regulations. Through responsible management practices and continuous consideration of biodiversity values, we demonstrate how recreational golf can coexist with long-term nature conservation in a sensitive protected environment.
