Water stewardship is central to how we manage Dun Laoghaire Golf Club. From its opening in 2007, the course was engineered with an integrated rainwater harvesting system, extensive wetlands, and reservoir storage, creating a fully closed-loop irrigation network. Across our 240-acre parkland course, more than 2000 sprinkler heads are supplied entirely by captured and stored rainfall. This system has delivered 100% irrigation self-sufficiency for many years, eliminating reliance on mains or groundwater abstraction and significantly reducing environmental impact. The wetlands and water bodies also enhance biodiversity, supporting a range of aquatic and marginal habitats while functioning as natural filtration systems. This dual role—ecological and operational—ensures water is both conserved and reused efficiently. This approach represents best-in-class sustainable course design, demonstrating how long-term planning and infrastructure investment can deliver both exceptional playing conditions and responsible environmental management, fully aligned with Golf Ireland’s sustainability principles and GEO certification standards.
