Golf Club Milano dedicated a special evening to Gianni Albertini, one of the most influential figures in the club’s history and the development of Italian golf. President of Golf Club Milano for fourteen years and later President of the Italian Golf Federation, Albertini played a pivotal role in promoting and growing the game throughout Italy through his vision and determination.
His legacy, however, extended far beyond golf. A passionate explorer, Albertini participated in major mountaineering and scientific expeditions, including the search for survivors of the airship Italia, which was lost in the Arctic during its 1928 North Pole expedition. Facing freezing temperatures and arduous journeys across the polar ice, he demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience. A few years later, he also participated in a pioneering attempt to fly from New York to Cape Town, further reflecting his adventurous and innovative spirit.
Through personal recollections and historical images, the evening celebrated these remarkable chapters of Albertini’s story. Club members, friends, institutional representatives, and his daughter, Giovanna Albertini, came together to honour a man whose life was defined by passion, vision, and courage, while preserving and celebrating an important part of Golf Club Milano’s heritage.
