Two bug hotels were built, one in a wooded area, the other close to our wildflower meadow. We scavenged disused clay land drainpipes and old wooden pallets to create six levels of access for small creatures.
Also useful were the fallen conifer cones for varying the range of access points. The policy of recycling available materials also encompassed the abundance of tree debris including tree trunks, all of which was stowed under peripheral trees such as the outer limits of the practice ground.
We are also exploring opportunities for developing a bee colony to strengthen the pollinator numbers. Two beehives have been set up in a secluded part of the golf course. The hives are within 50 yards of our wildflower meadow so with good climatic fortune both should prosper.
