Birds and wildflowers seen and discussed on guided walks and talks

The West Lancashire Golf Club

England

Written by: James Hutchinson

We recently undertook a member's evening to highlight the value of our environmental and ecological initiatives. We began with a talk from James Hutchinson, BIGGA ecologist, followed by a walk of the course to see the habitats we have created and the diversity of wildlife that can be found calling them home.

Stonechats, skylarks and a sandpiper were observed whereas a grasshopper warbler could be heard (but not seen, this time!). Interesting wildflowers were found such as woundworts, orchids, members of the pea family and a healthy selection of other native varieties. The evening was such a success that we plan to make this a regular event for our membership and hope to see even more interesting and important biodiversity at West Lancashire GC.
