Bare sand area extension helps achieve a more sustainable putting green

An extensive area of bare sand and dune slack was created in 2021 to remove rank grasses and non-indigenous scrub from the left-hand side of the 3rd hole. This has helped to encourage the colonisation of the area with native duneland species. In order to create the dune slack, an estimated 500 tonnes of native sand was excavated and used to reconstruct the clubs new putting Green. An estimated 400 tonnes of rootzone was composted on site and processed for the construction.

The old putting green was prone to waterlogging and required extensive year-round maintenance. The new putting green will require fewer nutritional and irrigation inputs in the long term thanks to its construction with the appropriate recycled native materials.
