Aiming for zero chemical impact

Throughout 2019 the Queen's course will be introducing a biological fertility programme, focused on soil microbiology and aiming for zero chemical impact on our course. Soil contains more microbial life (fungi and bacteria, for example) in one teaspoon than there are people in the world, all of which play an essential role in supporting life. Plant roots and soil microorganisms work in harmony to recycle and repurpose materials used for growth, therefore our approach to managing turf recognises that the soil and rootzone need to be as healthy as possible. Reducing or eliminating chemical applications will help this, while at the same time avoiding the purchase of such products and their associated environmental risks.
