At Hørsholm Golf, we’ve fully committed to the cause of waste sorting. This initiative has been implemented in cooperation with Danish legislation and our waste handler, Marius Pedersen, who has long played an active role in waste sorting and recycling. Choosing them as our partner was therefore a natural choice.
Together, we identified the most common types of waste found on a golf course. To facilitate sorting, we built a custom waste station from FSC-certified wood with clear symbols for different waste categories. Waste is now sorted into deposit bottles, paper, general waste, and packaging, including metal and plastic.
The last category undergoes further sorting through magnets and robotic sorting at Marius Pedersen’s facility, with an estimated 70-80% being recycled. Any residual waste is not sent to landfill but is used at heating plants to be converted into energy.
With this initiative, we’ve built eight new waste stations, strategically placed around the main building and the course, replacing all other waste bins. While it would be inaccurate to say we’re profiting from waste sorting, we have reduced disposal costs and taken another step closer to our goal of sustainability.
