David McGregor trained as a greenkeeper at Elmwood College in Scotland. His interest in butterflies started in 1995 while still living in the Scottish city of Perth.
"After reading an article about the decline of the butterfly population in the UK, I decided to learn all about them and do what I can to take care of the species," David says.
At Oslo GK holes 5,6,7,8,11,12,13,14 and 15 are the areas on the golf course where butterflies can be found. In the summer of 2013, we allowed some of these areas to remain untouched and I noticed a small increase in the number of butterflies. The following year I noticed that the stock had increased further. This summer he registered and photographed 15 different butterfly species compared to last year's 7. It has doubled in one year.
“I hope there will be as many or more species next year”, concludes David. Now the Oslo Golf Club has become a paradise for butterflies.
