2021
Omitting dates from tournament signage enabling reuse for future editions of the Dow GLBI is one example of the strong emphasis placed on sustainable procurement of products, materials, and services for the tournament. With 80% of signage reusable for future editions, not only does this cut down on waste but also saves costs in the long term for the event.
A sustainable procurement code has helped reinforce the strong commitment to integrate environmental and social responsibly throughout the event with several standout highlights. In the hospitality areas, all serve ware, including plates, bowls, spoons, forks, knives, napkins and cups, is made from compostable material. Local food and drink, supported through the ‘Eat Great Hospitality Trail’, showcases the best of local restaurants and left-over food is donated to Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network with more than 1,000 pounds of prepared and unused food donated in 2019. And with Green Team volunteers helping educate the spectators on correct ways to recycle, in the first year alone 68% of waste was recycled or reused.
