Golf club De Koepel manages a compact 18-hole course stretching over an area of approximately 50 hectares. The course can be found in the Salland region, between the towns of Wierden and Rijssen, and it lies between a railway line and a provincial road. The club does not own the land. The surrounding area is dominated by agrarian operations. There are no nature reserves or National Ecological Network areas nearby, nor does the golf course lie within the Natura 2000 influence sphere.

The terrain of De Koepel consists of structured woodlands and heath. The majority of the terrain is filled with grasslands like tees, fairways and rough. In between these, woodlands can be found. In 2012, the majority of the bunkers has been renovated and new bunkers have been consructed. The eastern part of the golf course is in use since March 2003. This part of the course has rather young trees forming young woods and clumps. Remarkable is the presence of the small heathfield (between holes 1, 11, 14 and 15). It consists mostly of Calluna vulgaris, but also Erica tetralix can be found. This species is bound to more moist heathlands. The underground of the golf course is built up of oligotrophic sands. The terrain shows several land dunes with accompanying flats and valleys. The biodiversity is characterised by plants of oligotrophic soils, the viviparous lizard and birds of shrubs and meadows.
For the next few years 2017, 2018 and 2019 there is many saw work on the program. It is intended to saw large air tunnels between the holes so there is more air movement. Leading up on when it is no longer allowed useing fungicides in 2020 it seems a good idea to bring more air on te course.
Het golfterrein De Koepel bestaat uit een gevarieerd bos-en heidegebied. Het merendeel van het terrein bestaat uit graslanden in de vorm van tees, fairways en roughs. Daartussen liggen opgaande boselementen. In 2012 zijn een groot deel van de bunkers gerenoveerd en zijn er nieuwe bunkers aangelegd. Het oostelijke deel van de golfbaan is in maart 2003 in gebruik genomen. De beplanting hier is dus nog niet zo oud en bestaat voornamelijk uit vakken met inheems bosplantsoen en jonge boomgroepen. Vrij bijzonder is de aanwezigheid van een heideterreintje binnen het golfterrein (tussen holes 1, 11, 14 en 15). Het gaat om droge (struik)heide, maar plaatselijk komt ook dopheide voor. Dit is een kenmerkende soort voor natte en vochtige heidegebieden. De bodem van het golfterrein bestaat uit voedselarme dekzanden (veldpodzolen en haarpodzolen). In het terrein zijn diverse landduinen aanwezig met bijbehorende vlakten en laagten. De biodiversiteit wordt gekenmerkt door plantensoorten van schralere bodems, reptielen als de levendbarende hagedis en struweel- en weidevogels. This is a positive incentive against fungus.
Voor de komende jaren 2017, 2018 en 2019 staat er veel zaagwerk op het programma. Het is de bedoeling om tussen de holes grote lucht doorgangen te zagen zodat er meer wind verplaatsing in de baan is. In de aanloop op 2020 wanneer er geen fungiciden meer mogen worden gebruikt lijkt het ons een goed idee om op deze manier meer lucht op de baan te brengen. Dit is een positieve stimulans om schimmels tegen te gaan.

|Installation of nest boxes||Birdboxes have been placed at different locations on the course for different types of birds, such as falcons, owls and humming birds. In total, we have installed 150 nextboxes.
In 2016 we placed 30 extra nestboxes. This is done in order to promote the population of Turdus merula.
|Control / management of alien species||During the winter, Prunus serotina has been removed to prevent it from spreading to fast. We also are planning removal of Pinus nigra and replace it for Quercus robur or Pinus sylvestris.|
|Provision of hibernation areas||In the woodlands there have been placed several piles of wood and bundled branches. This allows mammals and amphibians to forage and hibernate.
|Creation of micro-habitats (eg log and stone piles)||Microhabitats have been created at various locations on the course, such as breeding ground, grooves of branches and woodpiles.
Surface water from a pond located at hole 9 is used for the irrigation of the golf course. The level of the pond water is kept even by means of pumping-up groundwater. The water level, however, is often too low as a result of the demand for drinking water by the surrounding community and the demand to keep the water level artificially low due to local agricultural needs. The water level decreases dramatically during dry spells as a result of a porous soil structure and the absence of a hard, impenetrable layer of ground. The rusty colour of the water, resulting from the oxidation of iron when groundwater is pumped-up, is a matter of concern. Action is being taken to minimise water usage. There are two reasons for this: It optimises the rooting of the grass and it creates savings by only using the absolute necessary amount of water. Water usage is accounted for by the kitchen, toilet usage, shower facilities and in the cleaning of the accommodations, equipment and machines. On the golf course itself, water is used as drinking water. Since there is no separate water meter, we can not split the used amounts of water between the clubhuis and greenkeeper shed.
Voor de beregening van de golfbaan wordt oppervlaktewater vanuit de vijver van hole 9 gebruikt. Deze vijver wordt op niveau gehouden door middel van opgepompt grondwater. Door het intensief onttrekken van water in de omgeving van de golfbaan ten behoeve van drinkwater en het kunstmatig laag houden van het waterpeil voor akkerbouw, is het waterniveau vaak ongewenst laag. Door de poreuze bodemstructuur en het ontbreken van een harde, ondoorlatende laag dalen de waterstanden in droge periodes hard. Verder wordt de roestkleur in het water door oxiderend ijzer dat meekomt met het oppompen van het grondwater als storend ervaren. Er wordt sterk ingezet op het minimaliseren van de watergift. Reden hiervoor is zowel de overtuiging dat dit de beworteling van het gras optimaliseert, als de besparingsgedachte van waaruit alleen het noodzakelijke wordt ingezet. Het waterverbruik heeft betrekking op het gebruik van water ten behoeve van consumptie, gebruik in de keuken, toiletgebruik, douchen en het schoonhouden van de accommodatie, apparatuur en machines. In de baan wordt water gebruikt als drinkwater. Er is geen tussenmeter aanwezig om het verbruik van het clubhuis en de werkplaats verder onder te verdelen.

This golf facility is undertaking the following activities to maximize irrigation efficiency:
|Selection of grass species||An external specialist on golf course turf advises on the correct composition of grasses for the different parts of the course. The used grass species can withstand drought quite well

Golf Club de Koepel aims to minimise the use of energy and fuel through the use of automatic light sensory switches and energy-saving lighting. An expert-conducted survey in 2009 confirmed that the golf club was taking the necessary steps to enhance their energy-saving measures, although future savings can be made in limited ways.
Environment- and cost savings measures predetermine that supplies are kept to a minimum at Golf Club de Koepel. Pesticides are only used in a very limited manner due to their damaging effects. Green-keeping keeps a pesticide plan and in their daily decisions aims to attain the best results for the future. Over the past three years, the golf club has reached a stable use of energy, which is less than the three years before the first audit.
Golfclub de Koepel probeert binnen het redelijke het verbruik te minimaliseren van energie en brandstof. Door gebruikmaking van automatische lichtschakelaars en energiezuinige verlichting wordt hier gekeken naar een besparing. In 2009 heeft er een onderzoek plaatsgevonden. Door een deskundige is dit onderzoek uitgevoerd. Uit de rapportage blijkt dat de Koepel waar dat mogelijk is belangrijke energiebesparingsmaatregelen heeft getroffen. Mogelijkheden tot verdergaande besparing zijn nog wel in beperkte mate aanwezig. Gedurende de afgelopen 3 jaar heeft de golfclub een stabiel energieverbruik gehad dat lager ligt dan de drie jaar voor de eerste audit.

Environment- and cost savings measures predetermine that supplies are kept to a minimum at Golf Club de Koepel. Pesticides are only used in a very limited manner due to their damaging effects. Green-keeping keeps a pesticide plan and in their daily decisions aims to attain the best results for the future. Since the use of pesticides is low, we will only sum up the total amount of what is used, and not split the amounts further down to the separate parts of the golf course. In general, the greens are treated relatively the most with pesticdes, compared to the other parts of the golf course.

In de regel wordt op de greens verhoudingsgewijs de meeste gewasbescherming gebruikt.

Green-keeping is sharply focussed on carrying out a responsible environmental management plan. This not only entails minimising the use of harmful substances, but also carrying out a responsible policy concerning, for instance, the use of pesticides. For example: If spraying against fungi occurs, this is done under the best climate circumstances and use is made of drifting-resistant spray nozzles (or, non-misting nozzles). The head of green-keeping is keenly focussed on the layout of the workshop and keeps unnecessary damage or wastage at a minimum through its orderly organisation. The drinking water will be controlled 2 times per year on quality. This is done by a laboratory on a chemical way.
De greenkeeping is sterk gericht op een verantwoord milieubeleid. Hierbij hoort niet alleen minimaal gebruik van belastende stoffen, maar ook verantwoord gebruik van bijvoorbeeld gewasbeschermingsmiddelen. bijvoorbeeld: Als er gespoten wordt tegen schimmels wordt dit gedaan met de juiste klimatologische omstandigheden en wordt er gebruik gemaakt van driftloze nozzles. Verder is de hoofdgreenkeeper allert op de inrichting van de werkplaats. Door ordelijk te werken is de kans op overbodige schade of verspilling minimaal. Het drinkwater wordt 2 keer per jaar op kwaliteit gecontroleerd. Dit gebeurt in een laboratorium en wel chemisch.

The ambition to manage the golf course in a responsible manner expresses itself in various ways. Communication among the members of the golf course commission and towards management is considered important. This communication forms the basis of the general meetings. Communication through the club newsletter addresses those issues and developments concerning nature and environment on the course. Golf Club de Koepel uses its website to timely inform its members of any measures taken concerning the course. This timeliness further enhances member understanding for the need to take policy-driven measures. Separate reserves for nature projects are created in the yearly budget further giving root to the club’s nature and environmental care policies.
De ambitie op een verantwoorde manier de golfbaan te beheren wordt op diverse manieren tot uiting gebracht. Belangrijk is de onderlinge communicatie in de baancommissie en richting het bestuur. Hiervanuit gaat ook de communicatie richting de ledenvergadering. Door in het clubblad aandacht te geven aan natuur en milieu wordt de communicatie binnen de club verder vorm gegeven. Op de website van de Koepel worden maatregelen in de baan aangekondigt en toegelicht zodat leden tijdig op de hoogte zijn en begrip kunnen hebben voor het gevoerde beleid. Voor de verankering van natuur en milieuzorg wordt er binnen de jaarbegroting aparte reserveringen voor natuurprojecten gedaan.
