GEO: How big of a factor was the long-term sustainability of the course — in your decision to renovate and what specific renovation works to carry out?

Arnaud: Long-term sustainability was at the core of our decision-making process. We recognized the need to reduce water consumption, improve turf quality, and enhance biodiversity across the course. Key renovation works included upgrading our irrigation system for better water efficiency, introducing drought-resistant grass varieties, and restoring natural habitats to support local wildlife. These efforts align with our commitment to environmental stewardship and ensuring that the course remains in top condition for generations to come.

GEO: When golfers come to Tierra del Sol now, what new can they expect from the golf course and their overall experience?

Arnaud: Golfers will immediately notice improved playing surfaces, reimagined bunkers, and enhanced greens that offer a more consistent and rewarding experience. Beyond the technical improvements, we have also focused on elevating the overall ambiance—beautifully restored natural landscapes, better course routing, and strategically placed amenities that enhance comfort and enjoyment. Players can expect a seamless blend of challenge and beauty, making every round unforgettable.

GEO: The work that Tierra del Sol is doing with Aruba Bird Conservation is really great — to illustrate how golf can work alongside nature conservation organisations. What is it that you hope to see as a result of this partnership?

Arnaud: Our partnership with Aruba Birdlife Conservation reflects our commitment to protecting and coexisting with the island’s natural ecosystem. By preserving and restoring native habitats, we hope to see an increase in both local and migratory bird populations. Additionally, we aim to raise awareness among golfers and visitors about the importance of conservation, demonstrating that golf courses can serve as valuable sanctuaries for wildlife. 

GEO: Tierra del Sol was one of the first golf clubs in the world to go through the GEO Renovation process, showing its dedication to being a flagship for sustainability. What benefits did you realize from working with GEO in this process?

Arnaud: Working with GEO allowed us to take a structured and science-based approach to our renovation. Their expertise helped us identify key areas for environmental improvement, streamline our water and energy usage, and adopt best practices that align with international sustainability standards. The benefits go beyond just the course—our entire operation has become more efficient and environmentally responsible, which is a win for both our business and the natural beauty of Aruba.
