Every five years, the International Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) for golf developments are reviewed and updated to ensure they remains at the leading edge of sustainability. This ongoing process is central to driving the industry forward — and to why golf development continues to become one of the most active sectors in sport when it comes to sustainability.
This year marks the third revision of the standards. This process is led by an international expert working group, followed by wider industry and public consultation.

All responses received during the consultation period will be gathered and reviewed by GEO and the International Working Group. Where appropriate, changes will be incorporated before the VSS 3rd Edition is formally released in late September 2026.
The VSS revision process draws on input from a broad range of stakeholders across the global golf and sustainability industry — including architects, developers, governing bodies, environmental specialists, and industry organisations. The full stakeholder map is available to view here.
