Sustainable Golf’s global #CSRshareDay Success
Last month, as part of world wide celebrations for Earth Day 2017 (22nd April) GEO were invited to take part in the international #CSRshareDay social media campaign organised by the non-profit Positive Impact Events, hosting an hour of discussion over Twitter on Sustainable Golf.
Now in its third year #CSRshareDay aims to share best practice, challenges, ideas and experiences on the topic of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with event professionals around the world. The 2017 event, held the day before Earth Day 2017, saw a reach of over 1.6million, a 400,000 increase on last year.
GEO joined other invited hosts, including Gold Coast 2018, Climate Care, Tourism Vancouver and the San Francisco Giants, in leading an hour of discussion on a specific topic. The discussion around ‘Sustainability in and Through Golf’ saw interaction from across the world with clubs, organisations and individuals sharing examples of golf’s positive value for people and planet.
Libi Newell, Communications Manager at GEO said: “we were delighted to be invited to represent golf during #CSRshareDay, it allowed us to share golf’s work in CSR and sustainability with a new audience. The campaign was very much a team effort with many clubs, Greenkeepers, Tours and other individuals and organisations across the golf industry sharing their own stories.
"The positive response from event and sustainability professionals across the world was fantastic and very encouraging. We are proud to have been part of this wide reaching and valuable campaign and to have been able to introduce many more people to the great work and leadership that’s happening across the golf industry.”
Some of the many highlights featured during the campaign included: tweets from Greenkeepers at St Andrews Links on water saving methods used on their courses; The Finnish Golf Course Owner’s Associations recent magazine feature on sustainability in Finnish Golf; European Tour’s GreenDrive sustainability programme; RBC Heritage’s carbon offsetting initiative; and the recently upgrade OnCourse guidance and reporting platform for clubs.
