More spectators, less cars

A new initiative from Ryder Cup Europe is aiming to help more Scottish golf club members attend the Ryder Cup practice days, while at the same time coordinating coach travel to reduce individual car use.

The move is designed to reach out to more people in the community in Scotland and contribute to the Ryder Cup Green Drive goals of reducing the overall environmental footprint of the event.

Groups of between 11 and 45 club members and their guests to travel direct to Gleneagles in their own minibus or coach for a world-class day out featuring golf, live entertainment, Scottish food and drink.

Golf club groups will also benefit from a discount on Practice Day tickets on Tuesday September 23 and Wednesday September 24 (£30 for adults, £5 for 5-16 year-olds).

Practice Days are the best opportunity for fans to see the stars of both Ryder Cup teams up close and in relaxed mood as they prepare for the big match.  There will also be a variety of activities to enjoy including live entertainment, fine Scottish food and drink and official merchandise shopping.

Alan Hansen, Ryder Cup ambassador, said, “Ryder Cup Practice Days will be a fun and memorable day out for all fans, so it’s great news that golf club groups can now share the experience together.

“As a golfer myself, I’m looking forward to joining fans and seeing the players practicing on the course and being part of what will be a tremendous atmosphere at Gleneagles.”

This year, Ryder Cup Practice Days will tee off with Tartan Tuesday (September 23), a fun, charitable event that will welcome both teams to Scotland. All spectators are being encouraged to wear a piece of tartan or the one-off tartan clothes pin that will also be on sale at the event, with all proceeds going to the Official Charities of The 2014 Ryder Cup.

Places for golf club groups are limited, so clubs are being encouraged to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Group tickets can be purchased from a special page on the main Ryder Cup ticketing website:

Once tickets have been purchased, groups should then book a coach with Ryder Cup Travel Services.
