Young golfers come together #ForeTheOcean

Freed Group Women's Scottish Open

Scotland

The Ladies European Tour, OCEANTEE and Marine Stewardship Council came together at the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open at Dumbarnie Links for their first sustainability series workshop and beach clean. Young people from across the region attended the workshop exploring Scottish marine wildlife, focusing on marine conservation, and the effects of litter, particularly single-use plastic, on the environment.

The launch event, which involved LET players Camille Chevalier, Inci Mehmet and Stacy Lewis, was the first in a new #FORETHEOCEAN project which will see young golfers from across the UK invited to participate in educational workshops and beach cleans to explore sources of pollution and the impact on marine environments and identify positive actions that golf clubs can take.

At the end of the session, the young golfers were given ideas that they could take away and implement in everyday life and at their own golf clubs.  The golf clubs are then encouraged to share their work and track results with one venue winning a visit from a Tour golfer.

2021 is VisitScotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters which made Dumbarnie Links the perfect location for the first Sustainability Series event.
