Wildflower meadows provide much needed sanctuary for insects

Following last year’s seeding of a wildflower meadow near the reservoir, we are finally seeing small signs of new plants growing across the site.

The seed mixture used was chosen specifically due to its success in sandy soil types. Over the past 50 years, the number of traditional wildflower meadows has sadly declined, which has resulted in a decrease in British insects.

Golf courses can provide essential sanctuaries for insect species and small areas like we are creating here at Woburn can provide the perfect location for immensely valuable ecological habitats.
