Water reuse from the wastewater treatment plant (ETAR) for irrigation

Porto Santo Golfe

Portugal

Written by: Carla Silva

Aligned with the mission of environmental sustainability and the objectives of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in which it is located, Porto Santo Golf Course is irrigated with reused water from the wastewater treatment plant (ETAR).

We have also redesigned the irrigation system to reduce the total irrigated area. By reusing water for irrigation, the golf course minimises its reliance on potable water sources, preserving them for human consumption and other critical needs on an island with scarce rainfall.

This initiative exemplifies our commitment to continuously improving the effectiveness and sustainability of our course, protecting and conserving one of our most precious natural resources.
