Using Felled Trees to Create Loggeries

Bush Hill Park Golf Club

The Greenkeeping team puts old wood to use with carefully crafted and placed log piles across the golf course. Made from felled trees, loggeries serve as vital sanctuaries for a diverse array of wildlife, particularly the endangered stag beetle. These decomposing wood havens offer essential food and shelter, with their damp crevices providing the perfect refuge for insects. As the logs break down over time, they become even more valuable to the ecosystem, attracting a wider range of species, including badgers. By offering an alternative habitat, these log piles help minimise damage to the golf course while enhancing biodiversity, creating a natural balance between conservation and course maintenance.
