In line with our mission to creatively re-purpose discarded materials for sustainability projects on the golf course, the Greenkeeping team has built and installed bug hotels. The construction and installation of these structures breathe new life into salvaged materials and contribute to boosting local biodiversity and supporting pollinators. They act as increasingly vital sanctuaries for pollinators critical to ecosystems and help to mitigate concerning factors such as habitat loss and declining species. Specifically, bug hotels provide safe nesting, shelter, and overwintering spaces for insects like bees, ladybugs, and butterflies. Salvaging all materials to create bug houses helps provide diverse cavities and textures that appeal to various species. Transforming waste into homes for pollinators highlights the importance of accessible, hands-on, and tangible sustainability initiatives, whilst inspiring players to appreciate the value of up-cycled materials and their use in conservation.
