Trialling turfgrass to decide perfect combination for climate

Efficient and effective course management is guided by some fundamental principles according to an operating plan. John Spraggs and the club's agronomy team carefully researched and trialled a number of turfgrass species and cultivars for their suitability to the local climate and environment. The following were selected on the basis of a) playing performance and player's expectation, and b) sustainability factors, particularly for water and fertiliser requirements.

• T1 creeping bentgrass: greens, tees and surrounds
• Colonial bents: fairways and rough areas.
• Creeping fescues: areas where no irrigation water is applied.
