The R&A biodiversity project

Carnoustie Golf Links

Scotland

Written by: Craig Boath

The R&A Sustainable Championship Agronomy Team, as part of their new 5-year project with the aim to understand the biodiversity value of golf courses, has selected Carnoustie Golf Links as one of a series of exemplary Championship venues to participate.

A number of surveys are currently being undertaken which range from bat surveys to amphibian surveys and also includes wildlife audits as well as habitat condition assessments. The information will then be gathered and used to inform the management of habitats identified as opportunities for enhancement.

Carnoustie Golf Links is excited to be involved in this initiative and we hope we can help by providing further evidence to illustrate golf is good for the maintenance of natural habitats and biodiversity. We hope that at the end of the project, we will be able to truly quantify the ecological value of golf courses.
