Tree management is an important aspect of course maintenance across our 98 hectare site. Over the last 12 months we have completed a full survey of the trees on site including several ancients. Trees are managed for a variety of reasons including, safety, habitat management and light & air circulation to the courses, benefitting the tee boxes in particular.

In our efforts to minimize waste production, we prioritise repurposing wood whenever possible. On-site, we have established dedicated log piles to support biodiversity by creating habitats for invertebrates. Additionally, we utilize the wood to produce woodchips and compost, serving as nutrient-rich mulch for our plants and trees. This not only nourishes them but also acts as a protective layer, aiding in moisture retention within the soil and reducing the need for excessive watering. We also actively contribute to our local community by donating logs to the nearby scout group, allowing them to make use of this valuable resource for their own purposes.

Two of our signature trees, our large Canadian Oak that frames our members terrace and the Cedar behind the 13th tee of the J H Taylor Course are the most recent trees to undergo management. Management of these iconic trees will ensure that they will continue to thrive and provide important habitats as well as beautiful vistas for our golfers to enjoy.
