Pöllö (Strix aluco) pesii säännöllisesti Helsingin Golfklubin golfkentällä. Nämä pöllöt pesivät tyypillisesti aikaisin, ja pesinnät ovat usein talvella tai alkukeväästä. Päiväsaikaan ne pyrkivät yleensä suojaan puunrunkoihin, ja laululinnut saattavat toisinaan häiritä niitä. Olemme ylpeitä voidessamme tarjota elinympäristön näille linnuille.
Valitettavasti paikalliset hiirihaukat (Accipiter gentilis) ovat monien vuosien ajan saalistaneet pöllönpoikasia ennen kuin ne ovat saavuttaneet täysi-ikäisyyden. Tästä haasteesta huolimatta alueella asuu edelleen yksi vanhempi pöllöpari. Toivomme edelleen, että useammat suopöllöt valitsevat lopulta pesimäpaikan lähistöltä ja edistävät näin niiden kantojen vahvistumista.

The Tawny owl (Strix aluco) is a regular nesting resident on the golf course of Helsinki Golf Club. These owls typically nest early, often having broods in the wintertime or early spring. During daylight hours, they tend to seek cover against tree trunks and may occasionally be bothered by songbirds. We take pride in providing a habitat for these birds.
Unfortunately, for many years, local goshawks (Accipiter gentilis) have preyed on the young owls before they reach adulthood. Despite this challenge, a pair of older owls continues to inhabit the area. We remain hopeful that more Tawny owls will eventually choose to nest in our vicinity, contributing to the bolstering of their populations.
