We believe that access to facilities during a round is a right, not a luxury. The toilet we've installed is a fully accessible prefabricated unit with both a urinal and a pedestal bowl. As a sustainable composting toilet, it requires no water or power, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional options, and has been provided at a fraction of the cost of previously considered choices.
This toilet is urine-separating, with a passive vent system to maintain airflow and prevent odours. Wood shavings are added after "number twos" to aid in composting, and solids are periodically emptied into an outdoor dedicated composting chamber, where they break down into nutrient-rich humus.
Composting toilets offer significant environmental benefits by reducing water use and lowering the risk of pollution from waste runoff. They require minimal maintenance, have lower installation costs by eliminating the need for plumbing, and contribute to sustainable waste management. These eco-friendly facilities are ideal for off-grid locations like ours, making them a practical, environmentally sound solution.
