Grâce à une subvention de la Fairways Foundation, nous avons pu restaurer un étang qui était en voie d'eutrophisation, un processus où l'excès de nutriments, en particulier l'azote et le phosphore, provoque la croissance d'algues, ce qui épuise l'oxygène et nuit à la vie aquatique.
Les étapes de la restauration ont consisté à réaliser un audit de la biodiversité, à créer un plan de gestion et à remédier au déséquilibre des nutriments en éliminant mécaniquement les roseaux en excès. Pour purifier l'eau, nous avons utilisé des bactéries pour dissoudre biologiquement le limon. Enfin, nous avons replanté les berges avec des espèces qui favorisent la biodiversité. Nous attendons avec impatience le printemps 2025, lorsque l'étang aura retrouvé sa splendeur d'antan et contribuera à atténuer les risques d'eutrophisation.

Thanks to a grant from the Fairways Foundation, we were able to restore a pond that was in the process of eutrophication, a process where excess nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus, cause algae growth, depleting oxygen and harming aquatic life.
The restoration steps involved conducting a biodiversity audit, creating a management plan, and addressing the nutrient imbalance by mechanically removing excess reeds. To purify the water, we used bacteria to dissolve the silt biologically. Finally, we replanted the banks with species that promote biodiversity. We look forward to the spring of 2025 when the pond will be restored to its former glory, helping mitigate eutrophication risks.
