2024
In 2022, for security reasons, we completely rebuilt Hole 14. To ensure the reconstruction was as sustainable as possible, we incorporated activated biochar into the turf base layer on the green. This innovative approach offered multiple benefits:
- Enhanced Water Retention: Activated biochar significantly improved the soil's ability to retain moisture, reducing the need for frequent watering while maintaining optimal hydration for the turf.
- Microbial Enrichment: Its porous structure provided an ideal habitat for beneficial microorganisms, promoting a healthier soil ecosystem and enhancing the overall resilience of the grasses.
- Nutrient Efficiency: By boosting nutrient retention and availability, biochar minimised the risk of leaching and ensured steady growth of vibrant, durable turfgrass.
- Sustainability Focus: Incorporating biochar aligned with our commitment to responsibility, as it helps sequester carbon and supports long-term soil health.
This sustainable reconstruction not only ensured the safety and functionality of Hole 14 but also contributed to a more environmentally friendly and resilient course design.
