Insects play an essential role in sustaining ecosystems and pollinating plants, they help to decompose dead material, and are a food source for birds and other animals. But with the increase in urban areas, they face a significant challenge to survive. We have recently started to include Insect Hotels in recently planted protected areas of our golf course, to encourage beneficial predatory insects and native solitary bees by providing them with shelter and a place to lay their eggs.
